What is Foursquare??

Foursquare is a location-based social media platform that allows users to share their location and earn points and badges in the process.

Thousands of people are using Foursquare every day not only to find their friends but also to find out information about possible venues that they would like to visit one day. Foursquare is very simple to use. By simply “checking in” to places via a smartphone application or SMS, users can let their friends know where they are at and also bookmark information and suggest venues.

Companies have become interested in Foursquare because basically it became sheep advertising. When people share their activities with their social network they are giving out information about your business whether you like it or not. Word of mouth is one of the most effective types of advertising, the problem is that back in the days it took too long to speak to a lot of people. Nowadays, it’s a different story. When we see our friends going to a restaurant, or a store, and we also see comments saying that they really like, chances are we will be very compelled to go check it out. Why? Because usually we tend to trust more in our friends than in a random person we see on TV.

It doesn’t matter if you are a multinational organization or a mom-and-pop shop, this is a simple way to attract news customers and maintain the ones you already have by offering them foursquare specials. When a user checks-in at or a place nearby your venue he will be presented with coupons and discounts that will attract him to your business!

This is really an amazing opportunity for both businesses and costumers. It is fun to let our friends know where we are at, and it’s more fun to be able to get specials and discounts in the places we like! From a business perspective Foursquare is also a great tool to increase sales, attract more costumers and create a relationship between them and their clients.
